GCash expands crypto trading to millions with 30-second sign-up and zero cash-in fees

GCash said Oct. 21 that it has expanded its mobile crypto services, allowing millions of users to trade and transfer digital assets within its app. Through GCrypto, powered by the Philippine Digital Asset Exchange, verified users can now sign up in as little as 30 seconds, cash in from their GCash wallet with no cash-in fee, and trade up to 55 cryptocurrencies around the clock, according to GCash.

Three barriers, targeted in one app

GCash said crypto has long been difficult for first-time users due to hurdles such as account verification, funding, and moving assets in and out. GCrypto aims to simplify all three inside an app that GCash describes as already familiar to millions of Filipinos, ABS-CBN reported. Users must be at least 18 and have a fully verified GCash account and can find GCrypto under the app’s Invest section.

According to the Daily Tribune, the platform now supports transfers between GCrypto and external wallets or exchanges without first converting assets to cash. A Bitcoin holder, for example, can generate a receiving address or QR code in GCrypto, send funds from another wallet, and see them arrive once the blockchain confirms the transaction. Funding straight from a GCash balance also removes the need for some of the peer-to-peer deals new buyers used to rely on.

But the Tribune notes the risks. Crypto prices are volatile, and losses are possible. Digital asset transfers might also carry network fees and other transaction charges.

Part of a wider push on retail investing

Digital finance platforms in the Philippines have increasingly integrated retail investment products in recent years to serve a tech-savvy, mobile-first population, ABS-CBN reported. GCash said the effort continues its commitment to making financial tools “safer, more accessible, and more inclusive for all.”

Round-the-clock trading needs round-the-clock support

Mass adoption rarely comes from new exchanges winning users one by one. It comes when an app people already trust folds crypto into a flow they know. By reducing friction in sign-up, funding, and transfers, GCash is turning crypto from a niche product into a mass-market one in one of Southeast Asia’s most mobile-first economies. Fintech and payments leaders across the region will be watching how quickly users take it up and how competitors and regulators respond.

Trading that never stops, combined with transfers to external wallets, creates constant demand for customer support, KYC review, and fraud handling. Many new users will not know what a wallet address or a blockchain confirmation is, so a single mistyped address or a delayed transfer can quickly become an urgent ticket. Scams aimed at first-time investors will also grow as access widens.

Fintechs scaling crypto products need outsourced CX teams trained in digital-asset basics and compliance workflows, with fraud escalations covered on every shift. The Philippines already has the workforce and fintech support experience to deliver this, which puts local BPO providers in a strong position. The ones that win this work will be those that invest early in crypto-specific training and secure delivery environments, with solid compliance controls in place for both.
